"I consider myself more reactor than creator. I re-arrange and re-articulate the imagery of photographs, casting visuals from the real past into the painted present. Working in an expressive style which gestures towards realism but lacks finish, I convey split-second moments, glances backward. Where social media's curated image-making project the illusion of concrete truths about ones' life, these paintings instead resist any cohesive narrative. My paintings provide situations and offer no conclusions, they ask you to fill in the gaps with your own interpretations. This reflects the real unknowability of social relationships: we think we are communicating, but we can never be sure we have been understood."
